The painter behind the stand/The sitter before him
There are moments of shine and glow whence the painter and the sitter stare upon each other deep in silence. I adore this glare, moments where Hamid, the painter, walked through then and now to catch the momentum he expects from his work.
The second week of Hamid Halimi’s painting exhibition is dedicated to an exceptional set of portraits of female Iranian writers and musicians.
While observing – far from its form, texture, and materiality which is worthy of different investigation – this unique assembly is what Hamid had unearthed through astonishing endurance. Despite his own academic environment, it seems that he is excavating the realm of connection and acquaintance with his models’ inner feelings. This absolute truth will be revealed at the moment of seeing his paintings. Hamid knows every twist in his connection with the paintings. This is the first display for Hamid and I’ll long for his next because he regards the nature of painting while even the fine foam on his espresso appreciates his presence.
